PRORODEO WINDSURFIN’ 7/27/2016

Diamonds were to theft

If I was my angel’s alibi

The Wild West was conquered with quickness

Outlaw cloud bursts turned into painted poetic Red Skies

Red Sky worked North American ProRodeo’s

Loving and toting her girl and boy

Then I met her a spurrin’ and sunfishin’

Stole her life cuz white eye’s the real McCoy

She’d of never ran off Cow’s Face

Usin’ horse ears as the dash

She never…

The Salt I Taste 7/9/2016

The little cattlemen rode in the bed

A beat up pick up truck bed in a big pasture

Cows were bawlin’ and crawlin’ fer hay

The two little kids we were about five if’n a day

The adults drove in four low across those flats

Our Dad’s were up front in a dirty boy dusty cab

They were lookin’ for pink eye and what could be marbled fat

Before we set out for our pick up bed ride

Our fathers gave us the pinchers to knock…

3.166 words Fiction story for WR241 Summer 2016 (Go to college or go back) CALF ROPERS a life line and a jerk line

Red Sky’s Divine Jerky Brine

Another miraculous plateau dawn arose behind Red Sky’s back as she sat Indian style gracefully while stalking the northern slopes of the Umatilla Basin on the Umatilla River. She was dressed in her soft doe skin dress and the beads that decorated her dress told ancient tribal stories of Halfmoon fishing grounds when all four of the glacial mountains were cracking  their vertebras. The big mountains: (Mt. Hood, “Wy’East”, Mt. Adams…

To The Rye 7/16/2016

She crawled into my head

Felt like a day before

She was head rush fall out high, Red as the Sky

Knock knock with a roll of quarters on my door

Did she crawl before or after

I’d never kiss and tell

Red Sky shot a jag of clay pigeons

And ejaculated a round of high grain 12 gauge shells

Red Sky was here before and after

Lighting up the tailgate China Rooster nights

When I pulled down…

Red Sky Iraan 7/19/2016

On a real ranch

A cowboy is symbolic

Where did the boy start

When did the romance frolic

Where did the nerve strike

He was born without fear

He undid his quarter horses halter

He reached but headstall wouldn’t go over ear

The little guy could get in saddle

Wouldn’t halter rein just as good

He was able to get it together

Lookin’ like it should

The mare was from…

I’D PLAY FAIR 7/19/2016

No good man in 1950 stigmatized a Grande Ronde cattle drive

The T-N-T and the P-3 brands calved out on Butter Creek

Early spring made the their head counts sing

Cow calf pairs weren’t half the fight on a Red Sky night

Paid by the year Red Sky raised our children

She lit them with love like a pump up kerosene lantern

Early in the morning I’d brush and saddle Ol’ Thorne for the day

Horse transportation was any…

Red Sky In The Rye 6/24/2016

Old fashioned leather cowboy boot laces and plush eagle feathers

Nothing as fancy as Winter Count Ledgers or prestige if it keeps us together…

Hells Canyon 7,900 feet deep crackles to the sea and their registrar doesn’t really matter…

All We Owned 5/15/2016

Casey and I left our homes with rodeo clothes we owned

He rode and I roped of an old caballo the strawberry roan

I was hangin' and jangin’ Casey got in wicked time

A Casey Tibbs spur ride was Ft. Pierre sublime

We always caught the ladies attention when we wore sunglasses to the shows

The pretty young shop lady asked if we were…
